Goodnight Sweetheart 2007
Monday, 12. February 2007

Gosh it was fantastic! 21 of the LUU Swingsoc went down to Joe & Trisha's camp near Hertford this year. Even us seasoned camp go-ers thought it was the best camp we'd been to.
Plenty of big names like Bill Borgida & Peter Loggins, this years US Lindy Champs Todd & Naomi, last years 2nd place Olivier & Carole & crazy Dax Hock (of scuba lindy fame) from Japan to name but a few.
CB danced with just about every advanced teacher and Ranj got asked for a 2nd dance with the Belgian performance champ. I wasn't jealous.

It had some romance, some bitchiness, spot of drama. Cars broke down, folks got lost, we all slept late, ate big breakfasts and someone even got a snog. There was A LOT of hair-straightening, some uncomfortably close blues dancing, and a bloke in a skirt., The boys trying to get into the girls rooms and the girls resisting (but not so hard as to put them off). A fantastic time had by all I reckon. We did the occasional bit of dancing.

Lindy Ruck
Wednesday, 7. February 2007

It's all been fairly hectic on the Leeds Lindy Dance scene of late!

We had our biggest ever turn out for Sue Freeman's visit to LindyFridays last week. Hope we're doing something right. Some excellent dances with all the new follows. I was fair knackered by half time & I forgot my camera so couldn't get their moves captured for here on the blog, darn-it-all!

A break from Fridays this week for the Goodnight Sweetheart dance camp in Hertford with all the Uni kids.

There's been a ruck on the forum! Out of the positive responses to the Dark Town Strutters Ball we got some open and frank feedback from some of the out-of-town Lindy folks. It's been quiet enough on there since Lindy@theLight, but there's been some  fair action over the last week. For the history books I reckon Al fired the first shot  ;o) and then people kind of just reacted...quite strongly...right there on a public forum. I hadn't realised there was any bad feeling in our scene but at least now it's getting said.

It's really made us think about our contribution to the Lindy scene and we're still hopeful of some common ground with the rest of Leeds Lindy. I just hope they keep talking to us so we get a chance to figure it all out.

We're hatching a plan to get a couple of our favourite teachers up for a workshop. Never run one of these before so it'll be all learning. Teachers we currently fancy for this is Hasse & Marie. They taught us at Herrang last year and we loved 'em! Do hope we can make it happen.

At the moment I'm cast in the LUU Dance Show coming up (8th-10th March). Not available for many rehearsals and have to pick up some new aerials for it but excited nonetheless. Love those kids.

Not the new fella at Lindy but the comedian from back in the 80's. Gotta love him

First Darktown Strutters Ball
Sunday, 28. January 2007

What an excellent night. The Mike Booth Big Band were just fantastic to dance to and the turn out was a veritable who's-who of Lindy in the North with more Lindy dancers in the same place than I think Leeds has ever seen in recent years.
We had our Leeds Friday night Lindy Dance crowd, folks from Joyce's Thursday night Woodhouse classes, Jenny & Stuart's gang from out in Menston, the Sheffield lot, Keith from Manchester, Andy Mooney & Liz and plenty of others I'd never seen before.
All credit to Harry & Svetlana for getting all these folks in the same room. We just can't wait for the next one.

Train yourself to sneeze Ka-Pow!
Friday, 26. January 2007

So Al claims to be trying to train herself to sneeze "Ka-Pow" (presumably for something to do) which tickled me. Surely it's not possible?! A workmate says their mom sneezes god's name each time and was taught to do this since a kid. I'm sure it's some elaborate hoax but I'm pretty fascinated. We could all use a cooler sneeze!
Vix has started having a go at this, managing only 'Ha-Koo' .Already I'm envious. I'll be gutted if Al cracks this and I'm not in even in training, so I've had a go but sneeze so rarely it's tricky.
One chance I had today , I made a slightly different sound but felt like I'd dislocated my face. Worried that it's dangerous to mess with that much pressure. A sneeze comes out at up 120mph I'm reliably informed. I hope Al & Vix are taking care.

Cat Wash

The old cat-in-a-washing-machine gag which you'll enjoy if you're a bit cruel like me
